Sinton Dairy
Utility Savings Program Sinton Dairy is currently working with Colorado Springs Utilities on a lighting rebate program. Sinton Dairy is changing out the old T-12 lights and replacing them with more energy efficient T-8 bulbs. Sinton Dairy has reduced the operating pressures on our Ammonia system, which allows us to run fewer compressors. This has saved up to 25 % of the electricity that powers the compressors. This reduction has saved $5000.00 per month. We are urging an overall conservation program to our employees. Turn off unneeded lights: turn off water to equipment that is not running: fix leaking water and pneumatic lines. We have made operating adjustments to our boiler that has reduced our natural gas usage. (The flame is burning much bluer than in the past.) We were recognized as a Water Saving Champion with the City of Colorado Springs Utilities in 2002. Sinton Dairy reduced water consumption from 4,000,000 gallons of water a month to 3,000,000. This was accomplished by replacing equipment that was water cooled with a one pass system and incorporating a tank that would recycle the water to cool the equipment.
